A cost-based importance measure for system components: An extension of the Birnbaum importance

چکیده

In reliability engineering, component importance measures are used to prioritise components in a system for purposes such as reliability improvement and maintenance planning. Existing importance measures have paid little attention to the costs incurred by maintaining a system and its components within a given time period. Cost-effectiveness analysis, however, is critically important in increasingly competitive markets. This paper proposes a new cost-based importance measure which considers costs incurred by maintaining a system and its components within a finite time horizon. Possible extensions are discussed and examples are given to show the use of the new measure. ? Recommended citation: Wu, S., Coolen, F.A. An Extension of the Birnbaum-Saunders Distribution Based on Skew-Normal t Distribution

In this paper, we introducte a family of univariate Birnbaum-Saunders distributions arising from the skew-normal-t  distribution. We obtain several properties of this distribution such as its moments, the maximum likelihood estimation procedure via an EM-algorithm and a method to evaluate standard errors using the EM-algorithm. Finally, we apply these methods to a real data set to demonstr...

Stochastic Formulations of Importance Measures and Their Extensions to Multi-State Systems

In the case of binary state reliability system, importance measures of components consisting a system, such as structural importance measure, Birnbaum importance measure, criticality importance measures and some other importance measures, have been proposed and used effectively for practical risk and safety problems. When we want to judge which component or factor should be maintained first to ...

Birnbaum's measure of component importance for noncoherent systems

Importance analysis of noncoherent systems is limited, and is generally inaccurate because all measures of importance that have been developed are strictly for coherent analysis. This paper considers the probabilistic measure of component importance developed by Birnbaum (1969). An extension of this measure is proposed which enables noncoherent importance analysis. As a result of the proposed e...

On the reliability importance of system components

In reliability theory, some measures are introduced , called importance measures, to evaluate the relative importance of individual components or groups of components in a system. Importance measures are quantitive criteria that ranke the components according to their importance. In the literature, different importance measures are presented based on different scenarios. These measures can b...
